Bixi Bike Share infrastructure – Montreal

2024

“I particularly remember visiting Montreal last summer and being struck by the ease in which I could navigate the city by bike as a tourist. The protected cycle track network was particularly positive, as I always felt as though I was safe from cars. With regards to being a tourist, the affordability and user friendliness of the Bixi Bike Share infrastructure allowed me to see more of the city than I possibly could if I was on foot or taking transit. There was no extra fee for being an outsider, as so many bike share systems do, and it made me feel like more of a local. The bikes and bike lanes were also well-maintained, which I think further reflects quality in the BE.” (Booklet Positive Lived Experiences of Quality in the Built Environment 2024, p.60).
